Noren are traditional Japanese curtains that were often used in shops and restaurants to protect the establishment from natural elements, such as wind, dust, and rain. These curtains are often split from the bottom, to provide an easier passage when walking through them.
Noren can be also be used as a decoration and can be hung on walls, doorways, windows or used to divide rooms.
Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique that has been around longer than any other fabric dyeing method. The pattern is made by binding, stitching, folding, twisting, compressing, dyeing, and then releasing the binding pressure to reveal the pattern. Commonly mistaken for tie-dye in the West, the original Shibori techniques were ancestral, handed down exclusively within Japanese artisan families.
