We are obsessed with fabrics. Fabrics are not just the materials we use, fabrics are what inspire us to create. From the every piece we craft, to every story we tell, everything comes back to our fabrics. We work with a select group of dedicated vintage collectors in Japan, who share our passion for textiles that are made with integrity and purpose. We are lucky to work with small family run factories in rural Japan. These craftspeople have dedicated their lives to perfecting the art of textile weaving. Using the same loon and techniques for generations, they create traditional Japanese Kasuri fabrics found no where else in the world. In Japan, interest and demand for these fabrics is fading. Many of these factories are struggling to keep their doors open. We refuse to let this happen. These artists carry on an art and history that is woven into each yard of fabric. At Kiriko, we believe in the values of Mottainai - that the old can be made new and everything can be used again. From our scarves, to our shirts, to the patches on our scarves, to the old strips that is braided into our hat bands. Nothing is wasted. Every bit of fabric is saved, crafted and given a chance to share its story with you.
