Our latest line of hand-dyed bandanas are inspired by vintage Katazome stencils. Katazome dates back to before the 8th century. Each stencil was meticulously cut by hand, with papers soaked in persimmon tannin and backed with silk for strength. These were used to apply a resist paste to fabric before it was dyed, resulting in bold white patterns.
We've taken these original stencils and adapted them for screenprinting, bringing you a piece of history and helping the amazing art of Katazome live on.
Each bandana is printed, pressed and packaged by hand in Portland, Oregon. Each piece is hand-dyed and may have some color differences.
