"Nishijin-ori" refers to pre-dyed patterned textiles produced in Nishijin, Kyoto, and is chracterized by small-lot, multi-variety production. Skilled craftsmen and specialists, each with advanced specialists, each with advanced expertise, take on specific tasks. Only fabrics woven on registered looms are allowed to bear the name "Nishijin-ori." Additionally the brands "Nishijin" and "Nishijin-ori" are protected by registered trademarks.
