Collaboration between Kiriko and Eggpress.
The patterns of this card set derive from traditional Japanese Katazome stencils, which date back to before the 8th century. Each stencil was meticulously cut by hand, with papers soaked in persimmon tannin and backed with silk for strength. These were used to apply a resist paste to fabric before it was dyed.
We've taken these original stencils and adapted them for letterpress printing, bringing you a piece of history and helping the amazing art of Katazome live on.
