Sakiori is a traditional Japanese technique of rag weaving. Fabric strips are cut finely and woven together. Like the word 'Mottainai', which means that the old can be made new and everything can be used again. The Sakiori technique reuses fabric too small to be sewn, instead of throwing them away.
We asked a local artist Laura and her family to use our leftover fabrics to weave something similar, to be used as a mat or table runner. Read more about their story here.
Made with leftover fabrics, this piece is truly unique and won't be made quite the same again.
