Tsugaru Lacquerware, Black, Red, Green & Gold, Set of 9
Tsugaru lacquerware, or Tsuharu Nuri, is made in the city of Hirosaki in the Aomori prefecture. Tsugaru lacquerware has been produced since the mid-Edo period, however, it only started to be called Tsugaru after being shown in the World Exposition held in Vienna in 1873.
Tsugaru Nuri is known for its durability and refined look. The base is made with Tsugaru cypress and is then layered many times with lacquer. They continue this process for about two months to create beautiful thick and strong lacquerware.
