Boro is a utilitarian material. Originally a product of the working class (the farmers, craftsmen, and artists) it represents a time when everything including a scrap of fabric was precious. Born from a period when Japan closed its ports to foreign goods, fabrics like cotton became extremely precious and rare. These materials were saved and repurposed from each generation to the next.
This Vintage Noragi Jacket is made of indigo-dyed cotton, Kasuri dyed to form unique patterns and stripes. Entirely hand-stitched and thick, made with at least two layers of fabric. Dating from the early 1900s, this jacket was made and worn by farmers or the working class.
Using this jacket as a base, we added some ikat and kasuri fabrics to widen the sleeves and allow for a larger fit.
As we use vintage materials, this is a limited piece and only one will ever be made. Continue its generations'-old story by making it a part of yours.
