Made from two upcycled jackets, our Kiriko Custom French Workman Jacket embodies the Japanese ethos of Mottainai, which means that the old can be made new and everything can be used again. It features custom-dyed sashiko fabrics, authentic maekake (merchant's apron) patch details, an assortment of wooden buttons, and custom hand-dyed persimmon sashiko stitching.
French workman jackets, or bleu de travail, are classic utility coats made from heavy cotton twill were commonly used by artists, sculptors, and ceramicists in the 19th and 20th century who adored them for their deep pockets for holding small tools and relaxed fit for easy movement.
Resulting from the combination of two different French workman jackets, each Kiriko Custom piece is unique and one of a kind. Each jacket features slightly varied sleeve length and styles, varied torso lengths, pocket flaps details, and different fabric types including maekake apron parts.
