After a year of drying Japanese paulownia, there is another 1 to 2 more years of logging outside to expose those woods to the sun and rain. This process fixes and prevents the distortion and cracks of the materials. Japanese paulownia is one of the lightest wood materials that deodorizes and keeps insects away.

Tomekawa has been manufacturing paulownia chests for four generations since the first year of the Taisho era. To produce the best paulownia pieces, they dedicate a lot of time and effort to processing the wood. After cutting natural paulownia wood logs, slowly dry them for about a year and soak in water for leaching. Then they are exposed to the sun and rain to repeat the process of drying and wetting for another one to two years.
