The Katazome pattern on the cover is inspired by traditional Katazome papercut prints. A stencil is meticulously cut from paper, and a paste is applied through it, for fabric to be resist dyed. These papercut patterns are incredibly unique works of art, and we strive to share them through practical, memorable products.

Over 20 years ago, DIYer couple Laura and Austin Whipple bought their first printing press to start a literary magazine with friends. By 2012, Scout Books was a mature business that had sold over one million books.

Not only are their notebooks made from 100% recycled paper, but they power their shop with 100% carbon-neutral energy and ship with partners who have carbon-offset programs.

With their Future Forests initiative they planted 1000 trees in 2018 and 1500 trees in 2019. In 2017, Scout Books became a certified B Corp, further committing to good policies and sustainable methods.
