Kouraku Kiln started when Kosuke Tokunaga fired the first order 150 years ago. Kouraku Kiln controls the entire process, from molding to firing to glazing. Their in-house design team creates many beautiful items to fit the needs of their diverse customers. They employ talented artists, all with unique levels of experience. Since 2013, Kouraku Kiln has offered an Artist in Residence program. They welcome artists from all around the world.
By turning the mold upside down on a plate, it creates a sharp point at the top which is believed to protect from evil spirits.
